Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok has turned off its image creation feature for non-paying users following backlash over its use to create sexualized deepfakes of women and children.

NEW YORK (AP) — Google said Sunday that it is expanding the shopping features in its AI chatbot by teaming up with Walmart, Shopify, Wayfair and other big retailers to turn the Gemini app into a virtual merchant as well as an assistant.

A Welsh presenter has said quicker action by the UK government could have prevented further victims of deepfake sexual images created by Grok AI. Explicit images of Jess Davies were created using the chatbot and shared without her consent when the software was freely available to over half a billion users on X.

The complaint accuses Character.AI of prioritizing profits over child safety while marketing itself as providing "harmless chatbots for interactive entertainment."
