Many in central North Carolina are dealing with the remnants of Tropical Depression Chantal, which brought heavy rain Sunday night causing significant flooding across the region and was blamed for three deaths in central North Carolina.

Tropical Depression Chantal brought destruction to North Carolina. Heavy rains caused severe flooding across the state. Chatham, Lee, and Moore counties faced the worst impact. Moore County declared a state of emergency.

Tropical Storm Chantal (shahn-TAHL) was the first tropical storm to make landfall and the third named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm will be remembered for bringing tropical rain inland causing flooding in the eastern Triad and prompting tornado warnings in Alamance county.

Flash flooding is currently impacting Mebane, North Carolina, with several streets submerged. A possible tornado has also been reported on the ground.
