So until further notice, the Knicks can’t be classified as contenders. They’re too far below the Celtics and Cavaliers to be taken seriously. Sunday was just the latest example. In three games against Boston, they’ve been outscored by 63 points and struggle to defend the 3-point line.

There’s been hype coming out of New York for months and yet still no substance after the Knicks were pelted for the third time this season by the Celtics.

Jayson Tatum had 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists as Boston Celtics extended their winning streak to five games with a 118-105 victory over the visiting New York Knicks on Sunday.

The Knicks' 118-105 defeat Sunday at the Boston Celtics kept New York winless against the Eastern Conference's top two teams, following this past Friday's 142-105 loss to the Cavaliers in Cleveland with another failed test.

New York is 0-2 against the Celtics this season, who earned a 132-109 home victory on opening night and prevailed 131-104 at New York on Feb. 8.
